Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, long speculated to be considering a bid for Yahoo!(YHOO), has hired a U.S.-based lobbying firm, according to reports. The move may signal that Alibaba is becoming more serious about buying back Yahoo,[url=http://www.uggbootsclearancemalls.com/]UGG Clearance[/url]!'s 40% stake in the company or pursuing a takeover bid.

Alibaba may need lobbying help because an offshore bid for an online U.S. property like Yahoo! may hit political roadblocks due to consumer data and national security concerns.

Verizon(VZ) on Thursday announced it would be charging customers a $2 fee to pay their individual bills online or over the telephone. The move sparked a flood of angry customers who took to social media outlets to voice their displeasure, causing Verizon to reverse the decision.

Groupon(GRPN) is facing more woes after a letter written by the Securities and Exchange Commission to Groupon CEO Andrew Mason was made public.

According to the letter, which was written before the daily deal company's October IPO, the SEC had many questions for Groupon, including why execs had spoken publicly during the company's so-called quiet period, as well as requests for clarification of its business model.

Shares of Groupon closed Friday down 3.5% at $20.63.

Google's(GOOG) social network, Google+, reached a new milestone this week when it crossed the 60 million user mark.
